-It is a hockey reference for when breaking the rules everyone agreed upon.
Penalty Box:
-A trifold is placed around student’s desk until they
reflect on their behavior / complete missing assignments

2. Length of PB will depend on severity of incident
3. Classroom time and recess time will be spent in the box
4. No electronics unless needed for assignments
How the Penalty Box
Happens:
A)
Putting yourself and/or others in danger
B)
Any type of serious verbal/physical altercation
with other students/staff
C)
Disrespecting an adult in the building (ex:
aggression towards EAs, office, or lunchroom)
D)
Owing Mr. Shackelton/Mr. Mueller/Ms. Winston
more than 3 homework assignments for a long period of time
We have used this for many years in my teaching of grade 6. It allows for students to see there are consequences to negative, unsafe, and detrimental behavior/actions/words. There is a spot on the classroom contract if you do or do not consent for penalty box use. I hope you support me in this endeavor.
Today was a quite the day!
We learned about each other during attendance, and the string game (ask them to explain it!)
Then we made name tags for our desks, and labelled our subject books and folders.
Then we ran through all the forms that needed to be sent home.
We created the classroom contract and all the students created a minimum of 1 rule and all verbally agreed to the penalty box.
We had a visit by Mr. Sadowsky (gym and ELL teacher), and Mr. Wiens (music teacher) about their rules and a preview of what to expect this year from them.
In the afternoon we had a team building competition. Students were made into 7 groups of 4. They were given a roll of tape and 40+ straws and a wiffle ball. The winning team was the tallest tower that could stand on its own and support the wiffle ball. The winners had a tower of 1.04m tall! There will be photos to post once I have all the consent forms returned.
We then went outside for gym and are doing a class v class v class kickball competition.
We hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday!
