Friday, March 26th

Reminders:

5. FIRST DRAFT OF STORIES DUE AFTER MARCH BREAK, Tuesday April 6th! 


Today we did an awesome online presentation! The class was great! 


Then we finished the movie they have been watching at lunch time while having a snack.


We then had an hour to work an our stories before ending our day with gym.

Today we did our reading, and had our last hand ball match!  After that we had the morning to work on our stories.

Then we did Mr. Santos' last team building games for his research.  After recess we took a break with some board games.


For the last hour we cleaned the entire room as per school mandate!  It looks amazing!

Today we did our reading, and had Olympics gym with Mr. Sadowsky.  After that we had the morning to work on our stories.

We then did the math test, and corrected it as a class.  That took us all the way until 2:15ish.  We ended our day playing some math games.

Today in class, we read and played handball in gym.   The students were awesome during handball today!

We worked on our art from Friday to decompress after drafting, most finished it today

We ended the day with math jeopardy in rows to get ready for the quiz tomorrow.

Pillars of Care Winners for this Month!

Care for Others: Lucas - Lucas has shown care for others this month by bringing in his toys from home for the class to play with during recess.

Care for Learning: Ann - Ann has shown care for learning by engaging in class discussions and asking for help and feedback when she needs to.


Care for Place: Alex - Alex shows care for place by making sure his desk area is always clean and tidy. He also makes sure to treat the school laptops with respect and makes sure to help his classmates put them away properly whenever it’s time to pack them up. 


Care for Self: Rilley - Rilley shows care for self by making smart choices about where to sit when he needs to get his work done. He finds a good balance between work and friends.


Pillar of the Month: Raina - Raina shows patience for both her friends and teachers by keeping a positive attitude whenever she has to wait. She is always calm and never complains if things do not go her way.

Today in class, we read  and played handball in gym.   We did our Monday appreciation circle in between 2 writing periods of our story drafting.

We worked on our art from Friday to decompress after drafting.

We ended the day with math stations to get ready for our quiz Friday.

Thursday, March 18th

Reminders

3. Properties of air mini quiz next Wednesday! 


Today in class we worked on reading before gym with Mr. Sadowsky.  

In math we were working on BEDMAS word problems. 

In LA we went through the 10 tips to writing excellent short stories and we started our planning template for the final, big bad story were are writing. 

In science we did 2 experiments to prove that air behaves like a fluid and I poured invisible gas on to the candle and it went out. 

The next experiment was proving oxygen is in air. We used a candle as the source and covered it with a transparent glass. 

Then we had to take some notes about science and the properties of air.   We will be moving into the aerodynamics and force of flight.

Today we played a game to start the day, find Mr. Shackelton's keys.  Thank you to Lucas who found them, and he was able to pick the gym game. 

We made farewell cards for our student teacher since he wasn't here today :)

We did Mathletics.

We learned about the council of 500 and how the court system works in Ancient Athens.

Then we did an afternoon of mindfulness, ending with the school survey to help better my planning of it.

Today we did our usual reading to start the day and handball in gym.  The kids were amazing in handball today. 

In LA we worked on proper endings to stories. Then we also read Thesus and the Minotaur for reading comprehension.


In science we learned what happens when we compress air, some learned when we compress too much air haha. 


In social we learned about the ancient Athens government setup.

 Reminders

1. Spring Break - March 26th to April 5th 


Today we did our reading give it a shot totals and cards.  We are losing pretty bad class!! Let's get it going! 

We had gym, and we worked on review of integers and word problem integers in math.

In LA we worked on falling actions and how to write one after our climax. 

We then had an excellent appreciation circle, that took 45mins.  The students are loving the kindness box and we made some good strides forward after an emotional gym class. 

We took up our Q and A for reading comprehension questions to get ready for tomorrow's reading comprehension. 

Then we finally got to get our toes wet with some knowledge on Ancient Athens.

Reminders

Today in class we read and then did our weekly dodgeball games. 

In LA we worked on writing our climaxes and planning the ending to our stories based on a pictures. 

In math we had a quiz then did Mathletics. 

We did a team building exercise about levitating sticks, was really fun to see the kids work together and try to solve the floating stick mystery. 

After music we went over our previous Q and A based on a text, and handed back our social poster marks.  We did what was good, bad, and ugly with the posters.

We did our appreciation circle and kindness box too before lunch.

After lunch we had mindfulness and recess before doing another Q & A based on the story "The Boy in the Painted World."

Today we had 2 safety expo presentations on emergencies and online safety.  The students were great through them. 

In math we did order of operations and integers.

We did an air experiment proving air exerts pressure in all directions. 

Then we proved that if air builds up pressure when it release an object will go the opposite direction of it.  We did this through straw rockets.

Tuesday, March 9th

Reminders

1. Virtual Safety Expo tomorrow

2. No School Friday 


I was away yesterday and the class was amazing, made me proud. 


We read and did our weekly minutes and handed out our hockey cards. In gym we did the BHS Olympics, which the students had a blast. 

In math we did stations focussing on integer multiplication and division & BEDMAS stations too.

In LA we focussed on climax writing.

In social we did our appreciation circle,  and started some notes on ancient Athens.


In Science we learned air takes up space by blowing a balloon, we learned temperature affects air (cold makes the molecules shrink and move closer together, while heat makes air expand and move faster).

We didn't finish our does air exert pressure in all directions experiment but we will tomorrow. And tomorrow we will also be building straw rockets!

Wild Weather and Sky Science project rubrics have been sent home to be signed.  Overall the students did quite well with their information, graphics, and research.  A general theme in the class was reading off of the paper / smart board.  More practice, eye contact, hand gestures go a long way during in class presentations.


Today we made literary term posters to hang in the class to help us with our descriptive writing.  

After gym, we read and had a snack.  Then we worked on cleaning up red quizzes in mathletics, grade 6s worked on order of operations, while the grade 5s worked on patterns.

We had an amazing caring box sharing, followed by a great appreciation circle.  After that we cleaned the class and our desks.  Some students still need to clean their desks Monday morning.

Today I had to be admin, so we had a sub for the morning.    The students were great for the sub! 


In the afternoon when I was back, we finished our ancient Athens documentary and took up some of the questions.


In science we proved our first property of air, air does have weight.  We did the clothes hanger with an inflated balloon on one side, and deflated balloon on the other side to see if the hanger tilted or not.  


And we took notes on the scientific method so we could recreate the experiment if we wanted too!

Today we read and had Olympics in gym.  


In math we reviewed more multiplication and division of integers.


In LA we continued our literary term train with personification work.


In social we are continuing with our open documentary about ancient Greece.  


In science we started our properties of air unit! We are doing our first experiment tomorrow.

Today we did the reading cards since my laptop was back in action! In gym we are doing handball this month!  We went over a lot of rules, it was a little rough today, so tomorrow our focus will be proper defence.   But, it was great to see them being aggressive and a little rough for a change in the name of fun. 

In math we added in basic division (1x2 digits, 2x2 digits) with integers.  We are on pace to be starting BEDMAS / Order of Operations next week.

In LA, continuing with literary devices review from our poetry unit, we focussed on similes and metaphors in our writing.  

We had music, recess, and finallllllllllly finished science presentations!! Hats off to everyone!

After mindfulness and PM recess, we finally dove into our introduction to Ancient Greece!  We are watching an introduction video with questions about their society in general and how they contributed to the modern world before we put our ancient caps on and imagine ourselves in their ancient society.

So the CBE today decided it was my day to get my laptop reformatted, so it was a very unique day, and tonight I will be working pretty hard restoring my planning and files. 

Today we read and had student choice in gym today.  In math we are learning about multiplying and dividing integers, with really basic numbers 1x2 digit problems.  This is to prepare for BEDMAS coming up soon. 

In LA we worked on onomatopoeia today for descriptive writing to use in our story writing.

In the afternoon we had an appreciation circle and talked about kindness mailbox.  After mindfulness, we worked on some fun math games and other students worked on coding, while others worked on their typing skills on typing.com.


I hope to have all my files back tonight and learning will be continuing learning train going!
