Today we had caroling to start the morning.  After that had music and snack.  We finished our LWW movie and talked about the differences from books to movies.  Then we read our favourite books in the library before gym.

After lunch, we did an amazing art project ---- the students are very proud, they will bring them home next month, as we like them on display for a bit for the school to see.  Then we had to clean the room - wash desks, the floor, paint brushes, cups.  Everyone worked together and did a great job!  Then we had time to clean our desk trays.

Today we did math for the first hour to start our day.

Then we continued our exploration of the world of Narnia, by looking at Prince Caspian. 

We had some time to make some cool Christmas cards.

After gym we did properties of air experiments with Mr. Mueller, and finished off our provincial government chapter questions.

Today we had ignite for our Monday soft start! Then we did Mathletics for an hour.  After that we finished watching the LLW movie.  We will be having a mini quiz on Thursday for it.  Then we corrected the math test before gym.

In the afternoon the students did property of air experiments with Mr. Mueller.  In social we worked to finish the provincial government chapter.  We will be taking up the questions tomorrow.

Today flew by!  We did our math quiz, and watched some of the LWW movie!  After that and snack, we went to our buddy class and made Christmas cards for our loved ones.  Then we did more movie for like another 10mins, cleaned the class and had gym.

Today in class handed back the poetry projects everyone did them and passed!
Then we previewed whats on the math test for Friday and watched a number line fraction math antics video.

After music we almost finished reading The LWW, we will finish tomorrow for sure :)

Then we practiced fractions on Mathletics before gym.

In the afternoon the students had science, in social we were working through the textbook Provincial Government chapter.

Sorry I was away yesterday, not feeling well.  We hope everyone has Christmas Tree Tuesday!

Today we cleaned up the gym, which took a bit, but thank you everyone for helping!

Then we corrected math, and focused on math strategies to improve our understanding and success.
We then read for 30mins.  After that, we helped our buddy class research about the prairies.

We had a lockdown and our class did amazing!! Was very impressive!!

After the lockdown we continued our 20mins after holiday movie, Home Alone.  We are using the story mountain plot graph for the movie to fill in inciting incident, introduction, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution.  So will be a fun challenge to do that.

We ended our day with Dr. Dodgeball.

Today we did fractions and expressing them in different ways.

Then we went and setup chairs for the concert tonight.  When we came back we read The LWW and did predictions for each chapter.

Then we had our library time, and gym in-class today as the gym was being occupied.

In the afternoon we watched the Div 1 dress rehearsal and then started Home Alone 1 for the last 20mins of the day.

We converted mixed fractions to improper fractions.  We simplified normal fractions to their lowest terms.  Then we also expressed all fractions into decimals, percents, and pictures.


After math we read the LWW and made predictions for our main characters of each chapter!

During gym, we had an awesome basketball lesson.

In the afternoon we corrected our science tests, and we did our social service presentations.

Hey everyone!

Friday's are always a whirlwind! Today we had the pillars of care assembly then put everything away.

We had our science unit test, then afterwards we did mathletics until everyone is finished.

Afterwards, we changed our class for the month of December!  We made a triangle arrangement, which will be interesting.

Then we had a grade 2 buddies read to us, which they loved, before ending our day with gym and cleaning the room!

Hello, sorry I forgot yesterday!

Today we did ignite, grade 3 buddies (the grade 3s love our class), then we had a science reading comprehension practice.  I will mark them this week and get them back!   And it was a good review for the test tomorrow!

In math we worked on equivalent, improper, mixed and normal fractions.

In the afternoon we had science (studying for the test) and social working on the presentation and listening to some awesome student presentations!

Today we worked on making equivalent fractions, converting mixed numbers to improper fractions and vice versa, placing fractions on a number line, and drawing fractions. 

After music we had a snack, handed back science old projects and finger print poems, before reading more of the LWW.  We are midway through chapter 8 at the moment.

Then we talked about theatre expectations.

The play was a magical experience! They put on an amazing production --- from the actors/actresses, the props, set designs, script --- it truly was like we were in Narnia!

When we got back, we did one science kahoot to help study for their trees and forest test this Friday.

Today I was away on meetings, and had to fill in for Mr. Hebert in the afternoon when I returned.

Today we had ignite, then silent read and had a snack.  Following that we worked on fractions via mathletics.  Parents, please try to have your child use mathletics at least once a week at home.  It is an expensive program the school paid for that is quite intuitive for math practice and learning.

After math we read LWW and focussed on predictions for the next chapters.   We are very excited for the trip tomorrow --- please have a conversation about behaviour outside of school with your child as they are representing your family and our school in public.

Then we had gym and lunch.

In the afternoon we worked on our provincial service research presentation in our groups of 3 and had science with Mr. Mueller!

Today we started our fraction unit!  Big steps for Grade 6 :)
We used manipulatives today to be visual with our fractions.  We organized the cubes into groups, counted the totals, made fractions, made them into percents, and made our percents into fractions.  Then we had to come up with real world examples, and draw a picture of our fractions.   We will be continuing with this, this week, before moving into different types of fractions.

We then read silently for 10mins and had a snack before swimming.

After swimming we had a class meeting about lunchroom expectations / recess expectations / respect.

In the afternoon we continued with our provincial government - we were comparing local government to provincial government for how the terms are similar in stature but different in the level of politics.

BHS has enrolled in the Calgary Flames reading program.  Students will be bringing home tracking sheets to monitor how much they read each day.  Can you please sign the spot needed if they are reading at home?  1hr read = 1 Flames hockey card in grade 6.  Once they collect all 24, they can move onto the bonus card collection of Harvey the Hound doing funny things! The reading competition starts now and ends early December.   The more they read the more chance we have of the Calgary Flames visiting our school! BRING TOWELS AND BATHING SUITS for MONDAY AND TUESDAY!

Swimming incident today:  the class before us had an accident in the pool and we had to evacuate the water.  Unsure if we will get another lesson or a longer one, one day.  Have a talk with your child about proper hygiene in the pool.

I am away tomorrow, the students have Mathletics, then grade 2 buddies - mad libs and more math, then a big art project, then gym.

We started with Ignite and then read with our grade 3 buddies.

Today we corrected our math as a class on the board. Then we did silent reading until swimming.

After swimming we had a mini health lesson about proper hygiene after the pool incident.

In social we started our provincial government unit by brainstorming on our own, then in groups, then as a class about what they think / thought they already knew about it from the previous unit.  We then dove into a wild talk about PST and GST and where the money goes / how it is suppose to work.

In the afternoon we did our IRIS goals (math, LA, and personal) with 3 strategies each as to how to meet each goal.  These will be shown and discussed to you at the parent teacher meetings next week!
Then we helped our buddy class in grade 2 do their goals and strategies.  We then tidied up the room before ending our day.

Today we did our basic facts practice before our tri-weekly quiz tomorrow.
Then after music we had snack and we started the introduction to the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe before swimming.

When we got back from swimming we cleaned the room and read.

In the afternoon we marked our social test and took up the reason for each question as why some of the multiple choice questions were incorrect / correct. 

In science some of my students are still missing their leaf project! Get them in!

We also need to be quieter in the halls!  Teachers are complaining grade 6 is too loud!! Let's be more respectful!

Today was a frenzy of a Friday. We did our unit test, to be marked as a class on Tuesday. Then we could work on our poems until completion.  Most students did complete their poetry, thank you for that! Others, get your butt in gear! After that we had Mathletics buddies with the grade 2s - we did math, they did math, and we helped them when they needed.  Then we went up and had a mental math talk about strategies we can do in our heads to arrive at solutions faster.  After that we had a beautiful, Remembrance Day Assembly put on by Mr. Beechey!  It was great!   Then we cleaned our class up before gym.

Today was yet another whirlwind Wednesday!   We did math - long division and multiplication strategies.  After music we worked on our poetry anthology project until the library.  After the library we had dance.

In the afternoon we studied for our unit test Friday, some students are making their own quizzes for the class to do, others did quizzes and some worked on their unfinished projects that were due last Friday.

Reading...Give it a Shot
BHS has enrolled in the Calgary Flames reading program.  Students will be bringing home tracking sheets to monitor how much they read each day.  Can you please sign the spot needed if they are reading at home?  1hr read = 1 Flames hockey card in grade 6.  Once they collect all 24, they can move onto the bonus card collection of Harvey the Hound doing funny things! The reading competition starts now and ends early December.   The more they read the more chance we have of the Calgary Flames visiting our school! Thank you for your support and work with encouraging your child to read! Go Flames Go!


Today we worked on multiplication and division in mathletics before music.  After music, we worked on our poetry anthology. 

Then we did our monthly writing assessment, pictures were from WW1 and WW2. 

After gym we did social kahoots for the test on Friday, before doing science with Mr. Mueller.

We hope everyone has turkey Tuesday!

We started off with ignite then worked on long division.  Then we had a reading assessment and cleaned our desks out before DEAR Time.

After gym we did social kahoot quizzes to practice for the unit test / students could finish their projects that were late.

Then students had science.
