Help Ukrainians in Calgary with clothes!

 Dear Colleagues,

At the end of each year, schools tend to have a large number of unclaimed clothing items in their lost-and-found collections. Many Ukrainian families have arrived, and continue to arrive in Calgary. In the spirit of giving, we would like to donate clothing items to those families in need. We are looking to collect unclaimed good quality, gently-used clothing items of all kinds for donations. Items can be sent through Distribution Services or delivered directly to Ranchlands School to the attention of Steve Wigglesworth who will take the lead on redistributing in our greater community. We ask that items are washed prior to sending them, if possible. Please deliver by June 24.

Please feel free to share this request with other colleagues that may wish to join this initiative.

If you have any questions please contact sewiggleswor@cbe.ab.ca

Exam tips!

Things to look for in a story are:

- Paragraph with a mix of action & character dialogue

- Varied sentence beginnings and sentence structures

Many students still need reminders to attend to writing conventions.

- are there at least 3-5 additional paragarphs that provide more detail (how & 5 Q-words in detail)

- use of news language (e.g. formal tone - passive voice => "The man was rescued by ")

- use of the provided information and facts of the assignment

- include quotes of people invovlved /witnesses (direct & indrect quotes)

- students are encourgaed to "invent" appropriate names of people and add extra suitable information

that fits the context

- is there a conclusion (e.g. next actions/ updates to be expected)
